Use completed reading attempts as the canonical source for timelines, goals, and completion latency. Preserve user and library scoping while excluding deleted, skimmed, and undated attempts.
Fixes#1132
Treat series positions as validated string labels so values such as 5.10 retain their exact representation across storage, metadata providers, file formats, and clients.
Closes#1119
Rebuilds the users roster, metadata field rules, file naming and metadata
score panels, and replaces the libraries list with an expandable ledger.
Libraries now batch their counts and last scan into one request instead of a
per-library fan-out, and surface scan history from scan_jobs on demand.
Editing Date Started or Date Finished sent a date-only patch that the attempt layer had nothing to
attach it to. On an unread book no attempt was created, so the request returned 200 with null dates
and the field cleared itself. On a book being read the date landed on the open attempt as an end
date with no outcome, violating reading_attempts_closed_has_outcome_chk and surfacing as a 500.
Treat a date-only patch as a lifecycle statement: a start date opens an attempt and projects
reading, a finish date closes one as completed and projects read, and endedOn is never written
without its outcome. Clearing a finish date keeps the completion, because an outcome with no
completion date is legal and is already what re-read seeding writes. Setting a finish date on an
abandoned book now completes it. Reject a status that contradicts its dates with a stable error
code the client can translate, and derive statusChanged from the resulting status so a date-driven
transition still reaches achievements and the Kobo projection.
Keep unread and want_to_read free of dates they cannot own. The attempt keeps its own, so a book
marked unread no longer projects a start and finish date once a historical attempt is logged, and
marking a finished book unread no longer strands its finish date on the projection.
Stop the Hardcover import sending dates a status cannot carry. A want-to-read row that still holds
a start date would otherwise fail its row and skip the status import entirely.
Closes#1073
Read selection was positional: prefer any open remote read, else a cached book-level id, else the
first read returned, while the primary attempt was re-derived each sync from book dates. The two
could disagree, assigning one Hardcover read to two attempts and violating
reading_attempts_external_uidx, which aborted the sync and persisted the failure.
Treat reading_attempts.external_id as the mapping of record: an attempt keeps the read it owns, an
unlinked attempt adopts only an unclaimed read and claims it locally before the remote write, and a
fresh read is minted when nothing is adoptable. Never merge or delete attempts to resolve a
conflict, and keep soft-deleted ids reserved so importExternalRead tombstones still hold.
Also skip the link write when an attempt already owns its read, and map the aggregated attempt
timestamp to a Date so change detection stops comparing a driver string against lastSyncedAt.
Closes#907
Deleting a library cascades away its books, files, page stats and reading sessions, and a rescan
mints new rows. The device's sync state is keyed by the file's partial md5, so an unchanged file
kept its cursors across that swap: the plugin asked only for events newer than a watermark earned
against rows the server no longer had, and nothing recorded before the swap was ever resent.
"Recheck all book matches" did not help, because it funnels back through setMatched.
Treat a changed book file id or book id as a fresh sync target and keep only the local file path.
Both ids matter: statistics hang off the file row while highlights, status, rating and review hang
off the book row, and an existing-folder merge re-parents a file to another book without changing
its id. Resending costs nothing because the page-stat dedup key makes a replay a server-side no-op.
Order both hash resolvers by book file id so content that exists as two files always resolves to
the same row. They previously took whichever row Postgres returned first, so they could disagree
with each other and, with the reset above, move a device's sync target under it.
Closes#1049
Clearing a book's progress deleted the shared row and left the KOReader device row behind, so
the next pull served the deleted position straight back. Clearing that row too is not enough
either: an empty response reads as "this server knows nothing about your book", which is the
one reply that leaves a device certain its own sidecar is the only position there is, and it
pushes that back on the next sync.
Record the reset as a durable fact and answer the pull with a real start position attributed to
BookOrbit. Route the position by format, because KOReader's own kosync plugin feeds it straight
to GotoPage or GotoXPointer with no percentage fallback and an empty value leaves the reader
where it was. Stamp each delivery as current, because both clients compare that against their
last page turn and default backward syncs to disabled, so the original reset time would be
dropped on any pull deferred past a page turn without ever prompting.
Serving a reset proves nothing, since either client can classify it as a backward sync and drop
it silently, so the marker survives delivery and a device is held until its own push reports the
start. Retire it once a device that took the reset reads on: the pull carries no device
identity, so a marker kept alive past its purpose is answered to every device and would send
that one back to the start on every sync. The bound this leaves is deliberate. A second device
that never took the reset is protected only until the first reads on, and closing that needs
device_id on the pull, which is a plugin change.
Judge convergence on the reported position rather than the percentage, so page 1 of a hundred
page comic is not mistaken for a position no short book could ever reach. Wind Kobo bookmarks
back through the same paths, since a Kobo device otherwise resumes from its own bookmark and
reports it back the same way.
Closes#1032
Field rules resolve each field from whichever provider ranks first for it, and nothing ever
compared candidates to one another. A provider that matched the wrong book still won every field
it led on, so a single record could carry a title from one book, a cover from a second and a
subtitle from a third. The stock defaults make that the ordinary case rather than an unlucky one,
since cover leads with Amazon while title and subtitle lead with Goodreads.
Relevance scoring is what let those wrong matches in. A candidate survived on any score above
zero, and token overlap counted stopwords, so "The Girl on the Train" scored against a query for
"The Hobbit" on the strength of a shared "the". Substring matching ignored word boundaries as
well, which is how "Ubik" matched "Rubik Cube Solutions". Drop stopwords from the query side,
require a majority of the words that remain, match whole words only, and give the surviving floor
a name.
Then hold every candidate to an anchor before field rules ever see it. The anchor is the edition
confirmed by the book's own ISBN when there is one, otherwise the candidate the query supports
most strongly, with the title rule breaking ties because that is where the reader declares which
provider decides identity. Agreement admits subtitle extensions, reordered words and translated
editions, and rejects on a contradicting author, which is the only signal that separates a book
from a companion volume that extends its title. Reject solely on positive evidence: a candidate
with no title, or with no author to compare against, keeps the benefit of the doubt, and a lone
provider is never second-guessed. Rejected candidates no longer contribute their provider ids
either, which would otherwise pin the wrong book for every later refresh.
Normalizing titles to [a-z0-9] emptied every title written in Japanese, Chinese, Russian or
Greek. That scored two providers reporting an identical title as a disagreement, which under the
new anchor would drop all but one of them in those libraries, and it had already denied the
relevance gate any way to score them at all. Decompose instead, strip nonspacing marks so Soseki
matches Sōseki, and keep letters of any script.
Two sets of fixtures described different books per provider while testing something else
entirely, field-rule precedence and metadata locking, and now describe one book so that they
still test what they were written for.
Closes#1023
Audnexus was the only author provider, and it returns just an ASIN, name,
description and image. Goodreads carries a far richer author record, so add it
as a second provider and let each field choose where it comes from.
The Goodreads API was retired in 2020, so the provider scrapes: a name resolves
to an author id through the WAF-free /book/auto_complete endpoint, falling back
to the author search page for names that only differ by a middle initial, and
the author page yields the biography, photo, birth and death dates, website,
genres and influences. Two rendering quirks are worth knowing about, since both
silently return the wrong value: free-text fields appear twice, truncated and
whole, so the parser takes whichever copy carries the most content; and the
birthplace sits in a bare text node while only the date is wrapped in a
dataItem, so authors with a place but no date correctly store nothing.
Preferences are now per field, mirroring the book-side FieldPreference model,
with an ordered provider list and a merge strategy each. They are global,
because an author row is shared across every library and cannot hold a
different biography per library. Providers declare which fields they can return
and both the resolver and the settings UI filter on that, so Audnexus can never
be assigned to a field it has no way to fill. The single global write mode is
migrated into each field's merge strategy on first read, keeping an existing
install's overwrite behaviour instead of silently adopting the default.
The executor now queries every listed provider and resolves each field
independently, first non-empty value winning, and records which provider
supplied the record so a re-run can pin the match instead of searching by name
again. overwriteIfProvided skips empty values, which is what lets a matched
author with an empty Audnexus biography fall through to Goodreads.
Extend the migration module beyond Booklore and Grimmory so an existing Audiobookshelf or
Calibre-Web Automated library can be moved into BookOrbit without rebuilding user state by
hand. Audiobookshelf supports both a live API connection and an offline backup file, while
Calibre-Web Automated reads a stopped snapshot of the app and metadata databases.
Match source books by ASIN in addition to ISBN, and batch the ISBN, ASIN, file hash, file
path, and title/author lookups so planning a large library issues a bounded number of
queries rather than one per book. Route the batched author comparison through the shared
accent-insensitive predicate, which now accepts a SQL fragment so a per-row pattern column
is matched the same way a bound literal is.
Extract the shared source connection form into MigrationSourceFields so the modal and the
settings page stay in sync as source types are added, and allow a mapping to skip a source
user instead of forcing every account to be imported.
Closes#986
Sorting by "Last Read" ordered on reading_progress.updated_at, but the KOReader sync path
deliberately freezes that column so it stays a reliable "last local write" marker when resolving
conflicts against device progress. Readers who sync from KOReader therefore kept the timestamp of
their first ever sync of each book forever, so the smart scope sort, the jump-bucket rails and the
dashboard Continue Reading list all looked unordered.
Add reading_progress.last_read_at, which advances on every write unless a path opts out, and move
every "last read" reader onto it. Leave updated_at to the conflict-resolution and progress-resume
paths that genuinely mean "last local write". Kobo bookmark-location stamping opts out because
recording which Location a bookmark maps to is bookkeeping rather than reading, while the Kobo
progress write and the migration importer pass their source timestamps through so imported history
is not stamped as read today.
Move the ebook-versus-audiobook recency tiebreaks onto the new column as well. They compared a
frozen timestamp against a live one, which selected the wrong percentage for the same reason.
Swap the (user_id, updated_at) index for (user_id, last_read_at), since the ordering consumer that
justified it moved. Backfill last_read_at from updated_at in the migration, as the generated
DEFAULT now() would otherwise make every existing book look as though it had just been read.
Fixes#1013
When library items are scanned or moved on case-insensitive filesystems, paths with non-standard author or folder capitalization point to the same physical disk entries. Treating previous path spellings as distinct caused scanner, upload, dock, and rename services to fail path-reuse lookups and create duplicate book records.
Introduce path identity helpers to check whether paths resolve to the same underlying filesystem entry, treating matching entries as path updates rather than creating duplicate books.
Closes#1012
KOReader page-stat uploads can grow an existing derived session as more page events arrive, but
only newly inserted sessions reached achievement evaluation. A session that crossed a threshold by
being updated showed progress past that threshold while the badge stayed locked.
Carry the updated sessions out of the repository instead of a bare count and emit for them too.
The oversized-upload branch emitted a backfill event that nothing listened for, so subscribe
achievement evaluation to it as well; those runs are serialized per user and a burst collapses into
one trailing re-run, since each backfill re-evaluates the whole catalogue. Awards from that branch
stay silent: an upload that large is a device catching up, and notifying per badge would burst a
toast for every historical unlock.
Fixes#991
Require manage_book_dock for the settings UI and the scoped API so regular Book Dock users cannot
view or modify administrative configuration.
Reject every Book Dock key on the generic PATCH /app-settings/:key route as well, including
book_dock_paused. That route accepted the same keys with any string value, so an operator with
manage_app_settings could store an out-of-range threshold or an unknown metadata mode and bypass
the validation the scoped endpoints apply.
Closes#1003
Report success when Kobo rejects a delete for a tag it no longer has, so the device stops retrying
one it can never complete. Skip the full-library reconcile while a device is still draining pages,
and page fifty books at a time so a large re-announce costs a few round trips instead of hundreds.
Ref #1005
Moon+ Reader and CrossPoint never fetch the OpenSearch description document, so they
detected no search capability and hid the search affordance entirely. Both look only for a
rel="search" link whose href already carries {searchTerms}, and they match the link type by
equality rather than by substring.
Emit that templated link alongside the existing OpenSearch pointer, keeping the pointer
first so KOReader's has_opensearch guard still wins and its behaviour is unchanged. The
type stays bare application/atom+xml and the href stays relative like every other href in
the feed, so nothing has to reconstruct an external base URL behind a reverse proxy.
Calibre-Web ships the same two-link pairing.
Add the pair to the libraries, collections, smart-scopes, authors and series feeds too.
Those carried only a self link, so search disappeared once a client descended into a
sub-folder even when it did support OpenSearch.
Closes#860
Book Dock was a single permission that the standard preset handed to every user, so an ordinary
account could pause processing, trigger a rescan, and finalize straight into the library. Keep
book_dock_access for personal upload and review, and move global control behind a new
manage_book_dock permission in the administration group.
Finalization now also requires library_upload, since it writes into a library. Per-file reads and
mutations are scoped to the uploader unless the caller can manage the dock, which closes the gap
that let any Book Dock user read, edit, or discard another user's entry by id. The summary
websocket now announces a change instead of broadcasting global counts, so each client refetches
its own scoped totals.
Closes#961
KOReader reports a paged document's position as a page number and a reflowable one's as an
xpointer, but applySharedProgress treated every incoming position as an xpointer and
upsertReadingProgress hardcoded pageNumber to null on every write. A PDF synced from a device
therefore stored a correct percentage with no page, and the web reader reopened it at page 1.
The same write also destroyed a page the web reader had saved earlier, including during an
unattended bulk sweep, so this lost positions that were never synced from a device at all.
Carry the book file's format through hash resolution and pick the column from it. CBZ/CBR were
affected identically at the data level but masked in the UI, because the comic reader estimates
a page from the percentage when none is stored.
Closes#954
Wire the existing allow_registration setting to an admin toggle in the
Users tab and a public /register page, so the documented self-registration
flow is reachable from the UI instead of the API alone. Expose the flag on
the public setup-status endpoint the router guard already calls, so the
sign-in page can offer sign-up without an extra request.
Harden the newly public path: return a conflict instead of a 500 when
concurrent signups race the unique index, sanitize the logged username,
and reject control, zero-width, and text-direction characters in the
username and display name so a new account cannot impersonate another in
the user list or audit log.
Closes#952
The lockout was checked before the password was verified, so a correct password on a locked
account returned the same generic invalid-credentials error as a wrong one. Users had no way to
tell the two apart, and the natural response was to keep retrying a password that was already
right.
Completing a password reset did not clear the lock either, so the one recovery path the UI
advertises appeared to fail for up to fifteen minutes after a successful reset.
Verify the password first and report the lockout, with the remaining wait, only when the supplied
password was correct. Someone guessing wrong passwords still gets the generic failure, so account
existence is not leaked. Clear the lock whenever a password is reset or changed, and give admins
an explicit unlock action for the case where waiting is not acceptable.
Embedding metadata rewrites the book file, so its hash moves even though the book itself is
unchanged. Kobo reconcile reads a moved hash as new content and re-delivers the book as a
NewEntitlement, which makes the device rebuild its local entry and orphan every annotation
attached to the old one.
Carry the post-write hash into the device snapshots that recorded the pre-write hash, so
reconcile stays on the metadata-only path. The device keeps the bytes it already has and never
receives the rewritten file; a content change from any other source still triggers a download.
Ref #925
Extract dominant color from book covers to apply ambient background tinting in BookDetailView, add cover tinting toggle to display settings, and test cover tint extraction.
Add index on books table for random dashboard scroller queries, batch dashboard scroller requests, instrument pg pool logging, and cover dashboard scroller batching in e2e tests.
Replaces the implementation from #818 with a job-backed flow. Moves are
planned up front and surfaced as a preview the user confirms, then run
through a planner/executor split against a book_move_jobs table, so
progress is trackable and partial failures roll back.
The dialog-based flow from #818 is superseded: its module, service, and
repository are removed here in favour of the job-based equivalents. Its
e2e coverage is replaced by a book-move suite that exercises preview
classification, the collision policies, file relocation, preserved user
state, and the books-before-book_files update ordering that the
composite folder foreign key constrains.
Also adds dashboard shelf layout configuration.
Ref #257
* feat(books): add moving books between libraries
Allow moving books to another library without re-uploading, so a staging
library (e.g. book-dock imports) can feed curated genre libraries. Re-parent
the existing book row instead of delete+recreate so reading progress,
annotations, collections, and Kobo sync state survive the move. Relocate
files by rebasing library-relative paths onto the target folder with
rollback on failure and a copy+delete fallback for cross-filesystem moves,
then schedule the target library's rename pattern. Exposed as a bulk
endpoint plus UI actions in the selection bar and book detail page.
Closes#257
* ci: allow container image dispatch from any branch
Enable building a GHCR image from a feature branch via workflow_dispatch
to test changes in a container before they land on main. The main tag is
still only updated by the CI-gated workflow_run path.
Ref #257
* fix(books): update book row before files when moving between libraries
book_files_book_folder_consistency_fk references books(id, library_folder_id)
with ON UPDATE CASCADE, so updating a file's library_folder_id while the book
still points at the source folder violates the constraint and the move fails
with a 500. Update the books row first so the new folder id cascades to the
files, then rewrite the file paths. Verified against a real Postgres instance
in addition to the reordered unit test expectations.
Ref #257
* test(books): add book move e2e suite
Unit tests mock the database and cannot catch constraint-order bugs like
the book_files_book_folder_consistency_fk violation fixed in b1c430df.
Cover the move endpoint against a real Postgres and filesystem: successful
cross-library move with row re-parenting, file relocation, and preserved
user state, plus disk-collision skip, foreign-folder rejection, and
format-restriction skip. Reuses the metadata-write e2e harness.
Ref #257
* fix(books): emit transfer event so library views refresh after a move
Moving books via the API updated the database and files but never told
connected clients, so the source and target library views kept stale book
lists and counts until a manual reload. Emit the existing book:transferred
websocket event (grouped per source library) after successful moves; the
library and book detail views already subscribe to it and refresh their
lists, counts, and buckets.
Ref #257
* fix(books): refresh views deterministically after moving books
The initiating library view only removed rows locally and relied on the
book:transferred websocket round-trip for counts, so deployments where
websockets are unavailable kept stale headers and sidebar badges until a
reload. Refresh the view's list and buckets directly after a successful
move, refresh the sidebar library counts on transfer events like scans
and uploads already do, and surface an error toast when a move is
confirmed with an empty selection instead of silently doing nothing.
Promote the move action from the overflow menu to a dedicated,
count-gated button in the selection action bar.
Ref #257
* fix(books): show move action for demo-restricted accounts like delete
The move button was additionally gated on the demo-restriction flag, so
accounts carrying the explicit demo_restricted permission saw the delete
button but no way to move books. Gate it on library_delete_books alone,
mirroring the delete action next to it; demo instances withhold that
permission anyway.
Ref #257
* style(server): align union type formatting with upstream main
The criss-cross merges of two upstream states left seven files with the
older prettier union-type layout, which fails lint against the current
formatter output. Restore the files byte-identical to upstream main.
* i18n(client): translate the move-to-library UI
The move action, dialog, and detail menu entries carried hardcoded
English strings from before the vue-i18n migration. Move them to
translation keys following the existing catalog structure and add
entries to all locale catalogs so the parity validator passes; Crowdin
can refine the non-English translations later.
Ref #257
* security(deps): update brace-expansion and engine.io past new advisories
Trivy fails the container build on CVE-2026-13149 (brace-expansion DoS)
and CVE-2026-59725 (engine.io DoS). Both fixes are semver-compatible
patch releases, so refreshing the lockfile resolves them without
manifest changes.
* security(deps): patch fastify static and find-my-way CVEs
Trivy blocks image builds on CVE-2026-15074 (route guard bypass in
fastify/static 9.x) and CVE-2026-47219 (HTTP2 DDoS in find-my-way
9.6.0). Bump the direct fastify/static dependency to 10.1.2 and add a
find-my-way override because nestjs/platform-fastify pins it to an
exact vulnerable version. The static plugin usage (register with root
and prefix plus sendFile fallback) is unchanged in v10; the peer range
warning from NestJS is expected until it allows v10.
* i18n(client): add BookBulkMove audit action label to all catalogs
Upstream's audit filtering feature derives its action options from the
AuditAction enum and requires a label for every member. Add the label
for the move feature's BookBulkMove action to all nine locale
catalogs.
* ci: restore main-only guard for container image dispatch
Revert the fork-local change that allowed workflow_dispatch container
builds from any branch. The guard matches upstream again so the branch
only carries the move feature. Fork builds continue from the
fork-build branch which keeps the relaxed dispatch.
This reverts commit b13d276a4becbba7be80723ff6708df23132b3fb.
* style(client): restore upstream formatting in untouched files
Merge conflict resolution left four files with stale prettier
formatting that differs from upstream while carrying no functional
change. Restore them byte-identical to upstream/main so the move
feature diff stays clean.
* fix(book-move): harden error paths raised in PR review
Address review feedback on bookorbit#818:
- Guard the applyMove call so a database error fails only that book
instead of aborting the batch, which discarded collected results and
skipped transfer events for books that had already moved
- Replace the bare catch around the source access check with one that
maps ForbiddenException to the access reason and logs unexpected
errors with a distinct failure reason
- Report an incomplete rollback in the outcome reason so callers know
a book may need manual verification
- Ignore backdrop and cancel clicks in the move dialog while a move is
running
- Catch thrown move requests in handleBulkMove, surface an error
toast, and keep the dialog open on transport errors so the user can
retry
- Wire onBooksMoved in SmartScopeView so scope totals and jump buckets
refresh deterministically after a move
- Extend the book-move e2e suite changedPaths with the library and
scanner modules and the metadata-write harness it depends on
* i18n(client): fill move keys with English source for Crowdin
Crowdin owns the target catalogs, so hand-written translations get
overwritten or conflict on the next export. Replace the translated
move dialog, menu, tooltip, and audit label values in all fifteen
target catalogs with the English source strings, keeping the
locale-specific ICU plural categories the parity validator requires.
Real translations happen in Crowdin.
* fix(book-move): harden access, filesystem, and audit behavior from review
Address the maintainer review on bookorbit#818, server side:
- Require editor-level access on the target library via a new
LibraryService.verifyUserAccessLevel backed by a repository lookup,
mirroring the LibraryAccessGuard ranking; viewer access could
previously write files into a library through this endpoint
- Skip books whose files are missing before touching the database
- Assert resolved target paths stay inside the target folder so a bad
relPath cannot escape the library via mkdir and rename
- Bound empty-directory cleanup at the library folder root and walk
nested directories upward so flat libraries keep their configured
folder and Author/Series trees do not orphan
- Bump books.updatedAt in applyMove so Kobo sync sees moved books, and
cancel the source library's pending unavailable-books notification
like the scanner's transfer path does
- Suppress file-watcher events for all touched paths through
SelfWriteRegistry while files move, closing the race against
missing-marking and duplicate detection
- Replace rename with link+unlink (COPYFILE_EXCL on cross-device
fallback) so concurrent moves resolving the same target fail with
EEXIST instead of silently clobbering each other
- Record the actual moved/skipped/failed outcome in the audit entry
instead of the requested count
* fix(book-move): use stable outcome codes and an accessible move dialog
Address the client-facing maintainer review items on bookorbit#818:
- Replace the free-form English outcome reasons with a stable code
union in MoveBookOutcome; the prose stays in server log lines and
the client maps codes to translated copy, so the UI no longer
renders raw server strings
- Localize the single-book move toasts on the detail page through the
new outcome keys (English source in all catalogs, translation via
Crowdin)
- Rebuild MoveBooksDialog on reka-ui DialogRoot/Content/Title like
ConfirmDialog, gaining role=dialog, focus trap and restore, Escape
handling, and aria wiring; closing stays blocked while a move runs
- Filter libraries without folders out of the target picker since
confirming one is a guaranteed 400
* test(book-move): assert database and disk state in no-op scenarios
The rejected and skipped e2e cases only checked the response before;
a partial move could have passed. Assert the 400 error message, the
unchanged libraryId and libraryFolderId, the source file remaining,
the destination staying absent, and that a colliding target file
keeps its original content.
* feat(book-move): stream bulk moves with per-book progress
The move endpoint processed an unbounded selection serially inside one
request, which cannot finish within proxy timeouts on target-scale
libraries and gave no progress. Convert it to the same SSE pattern as
bulk metadata refresh:
- The endpoint streams one event per book plus a final done summary
and stops processing when the client disconnects
- Target validation runs before headers are written so user errors
stay regular JSON error responses
- Audit is emitted manually with the actual outcome because the
interceptor never sees a response body on streaming handlers
- The bulk composable consumes the stream, reports progress through
the shared in-flight indicator, and removes moved books from the
view as their events arrive; the detail page reads the single
outcome from the stream
- The e2e suite parses the event stream and additionally asserts the
done summary and content type
* fix(book-move): explain skipped books in multi-library selections
Collection and smart-scope selections can span libraries, so the
books' own library legitimately appears as a move target and picking
it skips them with already_in_target. Surface that in the dialog with
a hint that is only shown when the view has no single current library
to filter out. Exact target filtering would need a library id on every
book card, which collapsed series cards cannot provide unambiguously.

Project manual book status changes onto Kobo reading states and mark device snapshot rows as unsynced. This ensures manual status updates made in the web UI reach registered Kobo devices on the next sync without overwriting device bookmarks.
Closes#812
Add server support for writing metadata, embedded covers, and FictionBook XML structures directly into FB2 format files. Introduce migration 0058 to persist FB2 file write preferences per library, and update library creator UI and locale catalogs.
Add two-way bookmark sync support between KOReader plugin and server. Include migration 0056 for bookmark sync columns, server endpoints and services for bookmark exchange, and KOReader plugin bookmark management with comprehensive unit and E2E tests.
Lifecycle handlers previously blocked on network work, so closing or suspending a book stalled the
device on slow or offline links. Persist snapshots first and drain them through a lifecycle outbox
with connected-state gates and phase-aware retries, so the UI stays responsive and pending work
survives restarts.
Move persistence behind a state manager with atomic flushes, and chunk sweeps, bulk downloads, and
annotation exchange through a background queue with checkpoints and transfer policies, so large
libraries make progress incrementally instead of restarting from scratch after an interruption.
Server side, add bulk manifest and page stats endpoints with batched queries and catalog query
filtering so the plugin can reconcile many books per round trip rather than one request per book.
Replace metadata-based duplicate checks (ISBN, title/author) during BookDock finalization with destination path lookup. This allows books with shared or incorrect metadata to be imported whenever their resolved library target paths differ, matching the standard upload workflow.
Closes#736
Kobo devices send GET requests to /v1/analytics/gettests during sync checks. Previously only POST was handled, causing 404 errors during subsequent syncs.
Closes#697
Query-based book selections failed with a 500 error when filtering by metadata fields because findIdsByWhere queried the bare books table without joining book_metadata. Left join book_metadata so WHERE clause predicates referencing metadata fields resolve correctly.
Closes#732
Pass external provider IDs (including Hardcover and Open Library IDs) from book dock metadata selection through ingest and finalization so they are saved to book metadata on import.
Closes#704
Extend jump rails across alphabetical, temporal, and categorical sorts.
Keep large libraries responsive with bounded database buckets and exact offsets.
Refine active-state tracking, Unicode initials, localized labels, accessibility, adaptive sizing, and flat or collapsed-series navigation.
Add bounded, user-scoped temporal buckets for supported date sorts and adapt resolution to populated dates. Keep rail navigation responsive with viewport sizing, sparse-gap compression, and virtual-grid synchronization.
Introduce backend duplicate scanning services, persistence schemas, and frontend view components to allow users to scan their library for duplicate books by title/author similarity, group potential matches, and bulk delete redundant duplicates safely.
* build(deps): synchronize i18n lockfile
Record the locale dependencies so frozen installs can resolve the client workspace.
* feat(stats): expose privacy-aware reading insights
- Give administrators permission-gated access to bounded account activity.
- Let readers opt into auditable shared reading insights.
Ref #501
Exclude the originating device from reading-state fan-out and ignore stale or identical state echoes so paginated syncs can advance. Preserve pending new entitlements while propagating genuine changes to other devices.
Closes#654
Store file inodes as numeric rather than bigint on PostgreSQL, and read/process them as BigInt in Node.js. This preserves exact 64-bit inodes from filesystems like MergerFS (hybrid-hash) and avoids folder mis-merging or disabled rename detection.
Closes#618
Migrate the snapshot and snapshot books tables to be per-device instead
of per-user. This resolves a sync race condition where only the first
registered Kobo device for a user receives the library delta, leaving the
others empty.
Closes#314
Provide an action in the Book Dock finalize dialog to discard files that
are identified as duplicate candidates. This saves users from having to close
the finalize window, re-select the duplicates in the main queue, and manually
discard them.
Closes#591
* feat(storygraph): add StoryGraph sync integration
Sync reading status and progress from BookOrbit to StoryGraph using
session-cookie authentication. Includes book matching with manual
rematch and edition selection, per-user sync toggles, a throttled
request queue, a storygraph_sync permission, and a StoryGraph
settings page.

* fix(storygraph): address automated review findings
- clear stale cookie validation badge when inputs change
- reject saves with only one cookie value instead of silently dropping it
- handle linked-books load failures with a retryable error state so post-action
reloads cannot misattribute failures to the action
- add a 30s request timeout so a hung StoryGraph response cannot stall a user's
sync queue indefinitely
- reserve throttle slots synchronously so concurrent requests serialize
- reject empty cookie strings that would overwrite stored credentials
- report the retry response status when the rereading fallback fails
- add component specs for the connection card and linked books, plus regression
tests for the throttle, settings, and retry-status fixes
* test(storygraph): fully restore setTimeout spies between queue tests
* feat(storygraph): add sync-scope option
Adds the book sync scope selector (all eligible books vs selected books
only) and the per-book StoryGraph sync control on the book details page,
mirroring the Hardcover integration's controls. All books with a syncable
status are now eligible — the previous connected-at cutoff that skipped
books finished before connecting is removed in favor of explicit scope
and per-book selection.
* fix(storygraph): stream live sync progress and surface failed books
The manual sync progress stream emitted the same mutated status object,
so distinctUntilChanged dropped every update after the first and the bar
never moved. Progress snapshots are now immutable and track processed
books (synced + skipped + failed), so the bar advances for every book.
Adds live synced/skipped/failed counters, a persistent last-run summary
from a terminal completed/cancelled event, and a failed-books list under
Manual sync backed by GET /storygraph/sync/failures. Details-page sync
state now refetches when the global sync scope changes.

* feat(storygraph): show distinguishing identifiers in the editions list
Edition rows previously showed only format, pages, and language, making
identical-looking editions impossible to tell apart. The editions parser
now also scrapes ISBN, publisher, publication date, and cover image when
present, and each row shows the edition title, those identifiers, a cover
thumbnail, and the StoryGraph edition id linking to the edition page for
verification before switching.

* fix(storygraph): auto-refresh linked books after sync and add unmatched hint
The Linked books list only loaded on mount, so a book linked during a manual
sync run stayed on 'Not linked yet' until a manual page refresh. It now
silently reloads when a run completes (no spinner flash, keeps expanded rows),
guarded by a request id so overlapping reloads can't resolve out of order.
Books StoryGraph couldn't match automatically now show a short hint pointing
at 'Try auto-match' or pasting the StoryGraph URL.

* feat(storygraph): compact edition link and wrap identifiers on mobile
The editions list showed the raw StoryGraph edition UUID as a long
monospace hyperlink, which was hard to read and cluttered the row. Replace
it with a small icon-only 'Open on StoryGraph' button (aria-labelled) next
to 'Use this', and let the publisher/date/ISBN line wrap instead of
truncating so the ISBN is no longer cut off on narrow/mobile screens.
(cherry picked from commit cdf4d64063534adeea9daafad11cd58a0cbc9a00)
* fix(storygraph): re-sync books re-added after being marked unread, clarify labels
A book synced while 'read' then marked 'unread' left its synced markers in
place, so re-marking it read compared against a stale lastSyncedStatus and was
silently skipped (shown as Linked but never re-pushed) until 'Try auto-match'.
On the unread transition the synced markers are now cleared while keeping the
match, so re-adding the book re-syncs.
Also present match methods with real casing (ISBN/Title/Cached/Manual) and
clarify that the manual-link field takes a StoryGraph URL or book ID (the code
after /books/), not an ISBN.
(cherry picked from commit 771e7e4fe793afbc30800717ae1c017ca307e5e1)
* refactor(storygraph): compare skippedBooks explicitly in sync-status dedup
The active-sync stream's equality check omitted skippedBooks, relying on
processedBooks (synced+skipped+failed) to capture skip-only changes. That is
correct but non-obvious; comparing every counter explicitly makes the intent
clear. No behavior change.
(cherry picked from commit f267088939f0d2493caadab8eb90f24ab4b28c0b)
* fix(storygraph): encode manually-entered book id in the lookup path
The manual-link id can be pasted directly, so a stray ?, #, or / would change
which /books/ URL is requested. Encode it before interpolating; a bad id now
404s cleanly instead of being stored.
* style(storygraph): fix prettier formatting and remove em dashes
The CI Lint (Client) job runs prettier --check, which flagged
StorygraphLinkedBooks.vue and StorygraphSyncProgress.vue. Reflow both
to prettier style and replace em dashes in UI strings and comments with
regular punctuation per project convention.
* fix(storygraph): harden sync access and batching

* fix(readwise): avoid typeof this in settings type annotation
Production build (nest build → tsc via tsconfig.build.json) rejects
`Parameters<typeof this.repo.upsertSettings>[1]` with TS2304. Reference
the repository class type directly so the prod image compiles.
* fix(client): add Readwise sync to admin permission list
The admin UserFormDrawer renders a hardcoded permission list, not an
iteration of PERMISSION_LABELS, so readwise_sync was ungrantable via UI.
Add it to the Devices & Access group and the Standard preset, mirroring
Hardcover sync.
* feat(readwise): send book cover to Readwise via OpenLibrary ISBN
Populate the Readwise highlight image_url with the OpenLibrary cover URL
built from the book's isbn13 (falling back to isbn10). Uses ?default=false
so a missing cover yields 404 (no image) rather than a blank placeholder.
Books without an ISBN send no image_url. BookOrbit's own cover endpoint is
auth-gated and stores no public source URL, so a public third-party cover
URL is the zero-infra way to give Readwise an image.
* test(readwise): add type parameters to vi.fn mocks
oxlint (vitest/require-mock-type-parameters) fails on untyped vi.fn()
in the settings page test; the pre-commit hook only runs eslint, so
this surfaced under full lint:check.
* docs(readme): add Readwise Sync to features list
* fix(readwise): surface settings fetch errors in the UI
The settings page destructured error from useReadwiseSettings but never
rendered it. A failed fetch on mount left the user with an empty default
form and no indication that loading failed. Render an error banner when
error is set, and cover it with component tests.
* test(readwise): cover settings page token test, save, and visibility toggle
Adds component tests for the Test-connection flow (empty/valid/invalid
token), Save (success clears the field, failure surfaces an error toast),
and the show/hide token toggle — the interactive handlers Codecov flagged
as uncovered in ReadwiseSettings.vue.
* test(readwise): match settings buttons by exact label in test helper
Use an exact text match instead of substring matching in the testButton
helper so it can never return the wrong button if labels overlap.
