Squash of feat/koreader-widget-board. KOReader plugin 2.0.0 gets the widget-board dashboard, redesigned
book details, menus, lists and dialogs, Decor page and reading companions. Highlights, notes and bookmarks
now stay in step across web, Kobo, KOReader and the phones (defects D-00 to D-20, migration 0121), and
reading progress and narration hand off cleanly between devices.
A Kobo asks for each cover at its screen size but always got the
400x600 grid thumbnail, so sleep screens and full-screen covers were
blurry. Scale the full cover to fit the requested box instead, behind a
new Full-size covers setting that is on by default. Drop the stale
UserStorage entries from the authorization matrix gap baseline.

feat(metadata): extract metadata from file paths with regex rules (#1669)
Let libraries define ordered regex rules that read title, authors, series,
series number and dates from each book's path relative to its library folder.
Run rules in a bounded worker pool, honour source precedence and field locks,
and apply them on scans, uploads and watcher moves. Also retry unprobed M4B
tag writes with the mp4 muxer.
Closes#1351

Show the global rule and each library's own rule on Field Rules-style tabs, with live counts per
condition, the score histogram and the books a run would take. Store only what a library changes,
run every library with its own rule, and record each library's run. Also fix the DjVu queue test
that assumed which request waits, and inventory the DjVu reader routes.
Reader › Fonts now uses the Server Fonts ledger, family sheet and upload tray for a reader's own
fonts, and lists the server's fonts with a show/hide switch and a preview sheet. The shared pieces
move to features/settings/fonts and the ledger columns narrow to give the specimen room.
Server: additive GET /fonts/usage and PATCH /fonts/families, upload error codes, and a 409 instead
of a 500 when a reader uploads a second file for the same face.
Changes, Sign-ins, Security and All views replace the filter form. Repeats fold into one row,
sign-ins fold per person, day and network, and rows name their targets; events now snapshot
the target's name so deleted ones keep it. The drawer adds the event's facts, the target's
history, what the same person did around it, and one-click scoping. New additive routes:
/audit-log/summary, /sign-ins and /export; retention is editable from the page.
Each family is a row with its specimen, a weight grid of the styles readers get and how readers
use it; its sheet previews the face on reader pages and inside the reader's own font list. Uploads
answer per file in one tray, removing a family confirms with its cost, and a rename is one request.
Server: additive GET /server-fonts/usage (counts only), PATCH /server-fonts/families, upload error codes.
Replace the card grid with medals, a showcase, category shelves, a record book and a
detail sheet. Add GET /achievements/hints, which explains how to unlock what is still
locked from the user's own library and reading history, backed by a new page-count
index. Year-Round Reader now reports its months read as progress.
Library, smart scope, collection, authors and series pages share a new
BrowseHeader: the place and its actions on one row, then search, sort,
filters and facets in one bar that folds groups instead of wrapping.
Format chips count from the new POST /libraries/:id/books/facets, built
on the listing's own query; scopes and collections gain filter and sort.
Scanned books are commonly distributed as DjVu, which the scanner only stored as a supplement.
Decode pages on the server with DjVuLibre so DjVu imports with a cover and page count, opens in
the image reader with its embedded OCR text, and can be the preferred format of an ordinary email
recipient. Migration 0113 widens the recipient format check to allow it.
Decoding runs on validated private snapshots behind a bounded, reader-first queue, and
revalidation and cached pages are answered without a decoder. Released iOS builds cannot open
DjVu, so series continuation offers it only to callers sending includeDjvu=true, and the
dashboard and notebook read file never name it. The first full scan after upgrading promotes
stored .djvu supplements to content.
The authorization matrix fails for any live route that is neither inventoried nor in its frozen
gap baseline, and GET /server-identity arrived without an entry. Record it as public with no
permission or library access, which is exactly what the route serves.
Fold six tabs into Recipients, Mail servers, Templates and History, where only problems get
colour and one star sets each default through email_preferences. Replace the send dialog with
a sheet that preselects the default recipient and follows the send. Server additions are
optional fields and routes, so released iOS builds keep working.
Audiobookshelf reports a progress row's creation time as its start, while
clients set the finish date freely, so a backfilled finish can predate it.
One such row broke user_book_status's date check and the whole status batch
with it. Keep the finish date and drop the start, and store the database's
reason on a failed run instead of the failed SQL.

The player follows each track's stored sort order, which overlapping
folder scans, Add File, and imports joining a book could leave out of
step with the file names the Files tab shows. Realign a book's tracks
after each of those writes, under the book row lock.
Closes#1681
Book Dock finalize, which also files book requests, left each audio file's
duration empty until the next library scan. The player derives progress only
from those, so a filed audiobook stayed at 0% and never reached Continue
Listening. Finalize now measures them once metadata is applied.

Repeated searches and refreshes asked every provider again, which is slow and runs into provider
rate limits. Keep each provider's answer in Postgres, shared by all users, and reuse it until an
admin-set lifetime runs out. Search screens mark saved results and offer a fresh search, and
explicit refreshes stay live, falling back to a saved answer only when a provider fails.
Empty answers are only kept for API providers that report failures reliably, and a cache-only
request never calls a provider in cooldown. Book Dock's manual refetch stays live-only because
the dock has nowhere to report a fallback. Released iOS builds keep working: every new request
field is optional and newer clients gate it on the metadata-search-cache server feature.
Link two ordinary requests as companions, filed into one book, with a Both search,
grouped list rows, a tabbed release picker and a book-page request for the missing
format. Retire comic requests, keeping old rows readable. File Book Dock covers by the
field rules with a shape check, and re-pick a moved book's primary by its new library.
Carry ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 independently from accepted providers through
Auto-fill previews, saves and background refreshes. Preserve existing
identifiers and field locks, validate provider checksums and avoid
combining different editions.
Classify embedded ISBNs correctly and support ISBN-10 fallback in
search, Book Dock confidence and file naming.
The walker sorted a book's files by file name, so tracks in disc folders that reuse names, such as
CD 1/01.mp3 and CD 2/01.mp3, interleaved in playback, merged chapters, and written track numbers.
Order them by their whole path instead, everywhere a track order is chosen.
A rescan that only reorders a book's existing tracks now moves every audio bookmark and the
listening progress percentage to the same moment of the same track, and rebuilds merged chapters.
Disc folders are never skipped by incremental scans, so existing libraries are fixed by their next
scan.
Also inventory the notebook and dashboard highlights routes in the authorization matrix, and pin the
app locale in two date tests that depended on the machine's locale.
Books often carry several files, such as an EPUB beside a PDF or an audiobook split into tracks.
Write-back reached only the primary file and the audio tracks, so the other formats kept stale
metadata.
Add an opt-in per-library mode that writes every content file of a book. Target selection,
capability reporting and the Files tab now share one role-aware selector, covers resolve per
medium, and results report per-format counts. Read-along EPUBs get their own toggle, off by
default, and their own size limit of 1000 MB, so they no longer follow the EPUB settings.
Live testing on copies of real libraries surfaced write-path bugs, fixed here as well:
- tag-only writes to chaptered M4B files failed because FFmpeg copied the chapter data track
- an undecodable cover failed every file instead of falling back to metadata only
- failure reasons stored the FFmpeg command line and absolute paths; they are now sanitized
- size limits used the stored size, so an unknown size bypassed them; writes now check the disk
- atomic replace dropped the file mode and ownership
- the EPUB temp name failed on long file names and could clash with a user file
- tracks in disc folders got duplicate titles
- a PDF worker that exited without a result hung its write forever; it now fails and times out
- null on a NOT NULL library setting returned 500 instead of 400
Generates migrations 0104 and 0105. Every new API field is optional, and released iOS builds
decode none of them.
Ref #694
In folder-as-book libraries a pattern that files several books under one folder either failed on
the folder_path unique index or silently merged a different book into the folder's owner, deleting
its reading history. Check the folder owner on every rename path and merge only when both books
share a title and primary author; otherwise skip with a clear reason. The bulk preview now reports
these as collisions.
Fixes#1682
Add per-book journal entries keyed by a client id, a star toggle that does not bump the annotation
version pushed to devices, a per-user colour legend, and an edit route so bookmark title and note
changes reach the server. All of it is additive and advertised through app-info features, so iOS
sends new fields only to servers that support them. Also sort annotations by numeric CFI steps
instead of comparing CFI strings.
* fix(metadata): write finalized metadata back to the imported file
Finalizing a Book Dock file only moved the bytes, so a library with file
writes enabled kept the metadata the file was uploaded with rather than
the metadata the dock settled on. Schedule a write-back for every book a
finalize produces once all of them have their metadata, attributed to
the uploader.
Fixes#1385
* fix(metadata): schedule dock file writes after cleanup
Prevent a failed Book Dock cleanup from leaving a pending file write. Keep the integration assertion synchronized with the debounced writer and restore the missing directory stability mock for end-to-end coverage.

Keep one cover slot per medium and show the one each surface needs: the
library's shape for the face, square art on audio screens, the ebook slot
for Kobo and OPDS. Legacy covers convert on upgrade or on first read, and a
write that names no slot keeps working for released iOS builds. Also read
the dev client origin from one constant.
Replace the hardcoded English in the TTS and narration components with
message keys, label every icon-only control, and add settings.common.nav.tts,
which the settings sidebar rendered as a raw key.
Stop requiring PODCAST_ENCRYPTION_KEY while APP_FEATURES.podcasts is off, and
skip podcast routes and permissions in the authorization matrix for the same
reason.
Pass the direct-download settle() helper the SETTLE_MS budget the file already
defines: vi.waitFor's one-second default cannot cover six DNS-resolved redirect
hops on a cold CI resolver.
* feat(settings): add SABnzbd download client
Support API-key authentication, NZB uploads, queue monitoring, reconciliation, and completed-download imports through SABnzbd.
Expose the client in request settings and validate its required category and credentials.
Ref #1312
* feat(settings): add Prowlarr indexer management
Manage synchronized torrent and Usenet sources through a shared Prowlarr connection.
Ref #1312
* fix(settings): correct SABnzbd adoption and managed search retries
Address four defects found in review of the Prowlarr and SABnzbd work.
SABnzbd keeps a failed job in its history until somebody clears it, and BookOrbit removes a client
download only on an explicit action. Because the client key is a stable digest, re-grabbing the same
release adopted that dead history entry, never uploaded the NZB, and failed instantly and forever.
Adopt only an entry that is not already failed; a queue entry still wins, so a fresh upload reports
correctly.
The category-expansion retry reused the title-and-author query, making it strictly narrower on text
than the title-only attempt that had just returned nothing. A release matching only a title-only
search with expanded categories was therefore unreachable. Drop the author there so each rung of the
ladder is genuinely broader than the last.
Changing the download client type through the create form's select bypassed the picker's handler, so
a username typed for qBittorrent was still sent when SABnzbd was chosen. The server stores it, the
API-key form hides it, and it can no longer be edited away. Watch the credential kind instead, so
both controls clear it.
Finally, a swallowed managed-release refresh failure left nothing behind at all; give it its own
fail log while still reporting the original refusal to the caller.
* fix(requests): cast managed search health flags to boolean
The bulk search-health update bound each case branch as an untyped
parameter, so Postgres could not resolve it against the boolean column.
Cast every branch explicitly and assert the cast in the repository test.
* fix(requests): close review gaps in Prowlarr and SABnzbd support
Inventory the eight indexer-manager routes so the authorization matrix
probes them, resolve a managed indexer without reading its manager's
whole source list, keep an unreadable credential out of the test-failed
mapping, translate manager error codes, and show per-source search
health. Documents Prowlarr connections in docs/BOOK_REQUESTS.md.
* i18n(client): keep the retired sources empty-state key
Dropping bodyOneWay from en.json forced pruning it from five Crowdin
target catalogs, which the localization policy check rejects outright.
Leave the now-unused key in place; nothing validates unreferenced
English source keys, so Crowdin can retire it on its own schedule.
* db: regenerate the SABnzbd and Prowlarr migration onto main
Rebasing collided with main's own 0091 and 0092, which left this branch's
two migrations on disk with no journal entry referencing them. Drop both
and regenerate a single migration on main's lineage; the three affected
tables are schema-identical to the pre-rebase snapshot.
Sort groups by reclaimable space, pre-pick a keeper with a rule that states
its reasoning, and expand any row into a field-by-field comparison that shows
only what differs. Persist "not duplicates" so a judgement survives a rescan,
and review every copy before deleting. Reading progress no longer renders 0%.
Add EPUB narration, shared media controls, and native device session integration.
Apply the generated migrations and update all first-party clients alongside the server.
BREAKING CHANGE: introduce incompatible database and API contracts for media playback
* feat(scanner): set book added_at from earliest on-disk file mtime
A book's "date added" now reflects when its content files first landed on
disk (the earliest mtime across its content-role files) instead of the
moment BookOrbit imported it. Cover/metadata/supplement sidecars are
excluded. When no content file has a usable mtime, addedAt is left unset so
the DB defaultNow() fallback (import time) still applies. Only set at
initial book creation; re-scan/restore paths do not touch it.
* feat(library): add per-library added_at source with recompute
Add an addedAtSource setting to libraries so "date added" can follow the
book's files on disk rather than the moment the scanner happened to see
them. The setting takes imported (unchanged default), file_modified, or
file_created, guarded by a check constraint on the column.
Expose a recompute action so the chosen source can be applied to books
that are already imported. file_modified runs as a single set-based
update over the stored mtimes; file_created has to stat the files, since
birthtime is not persisted, so it batches those reads.
Leave every existing library on imported so behavior is unchanged unless
a user opts in.
* feat(library): add added_at source control to the library editor
Surface the new addedAtSource setting in the library editor as a radio
group, alongside a button that triggers the recompute for the library
being edited.
Keep the recompute out of the save path so changing the setting stays
cheap: the setting alone only affects books imported from then on, and
applying it to existing books is an explicit choice.
* i18n(library): translate added_at source strings (de/nl/pt/sl)
* fix(library): correct create payload, recompute floor and failure logging
The library creator posts its whole form, so omitting addedAtSource from
CreateLibraryDto made the global whitelist reject every create request
with a 400. Declare the field, validate it against the same source list
as the update DTO, and persist it so the initial scan uses the requested
source rather than silently falling back to imported.
Apply the scanner's usable-time floor to the mtime recompute query too.
It previously excluded only NULL, so a filesystem reporting epoch 0 would
rewrite added_at to 1970 instead of leaving the import time in place. The
floor now lives in library.constants rather than being spelled out twice.
Wrap the recompute in try/catch so a database or stat failure emits the
[fail] log the logging conventions require instead of propagating with
only a [start] line recorded.
* fix(library): gate recompute on the saved source and label the radios
The recompute button stayed enabled while the selected source differed
from the stored one. Because the request carries no source, clicking it
recomputed against the old stored value while the UI showed the new
selection. A hint already said to save first; disable the control as well
so the mismatch is not actionable.
Give the source list radiogroup semantics with aria-checked so screen
readers can tell which option is active, since selection was conveyed by
styling alone.
* test(library): assert the create DTO under the real validation options
The previous comment claimed the case exercised whitelist and
forbidNonWhitelisted, but the shared helper calls validate without them,
so it only proved @IsIn rejects an unknown value.
Drop the misleading comment and add a case that validates with the same
options main.ts gives ValidationPipe, so an undeclared addedAtSource
fails the way it would in a real request.
* docs(library): remove redundant date-added documentation

Closes#1002
* feat(reader): add PDF highlights and annotations
Persist and render PDF highlights through the same annotation system as
EPUB. The annotation_positions table already supported a 'pdf' format, so
this wires the web create path, response, and reader UI to it.
Backend:
- create-annotation DTO accepts a pdf position (page + segment rects) as an
alternative to a cfi; exactly one is required
- repository createPdf() persists a format='pdf' position (geometry in pos0,
pageno in extras); selectWithCfi exposes the pdf geometry and status
- response DTO parses the pdf position and derives positionStatus
Frontend (pdf-v4 reader):
- usePdfAnnotations REST store and usePdfHighlights orchestration render
persisted highlights via the EmbedPDF annotation plugin (autoCommit off,
DB stays source of truth)
- selection popup (colour/style/note/copy/delete), note dialog, and a
Highlights sidebar tab with search/colour/notes filters, navigate, delete
- NoteDialog relocated to reader/shared for reuse by both readers
Shared types gain AnnotationRect/AnnotationPdfPosition and an optional pdf
field on AnnotationItem.
* fix(reader): preserve input on failed PDF annotation save; convert mixed PDF+CFI for KOReader
- usePdfHighlights: createFromSelection/restyleExisting now return success;
applyHighlight and saveNote only clear the selection, dismiss the popup, and
close the note dialog on success. On failure the mark, popup, and typed note
are preserved so the user can retry without losing input.
- koreader annotation exchange: the PDF push-down guard now skips only PDF-only
annotations (no EPUB anchor). A mixed PDF+CFI annotation still converts its CFI
to xpointer instead of being dropped.
- Tests for both paths.
* fix(reader): label PDF selection buttons and dedupe multi-page highlight retries
- PdfSelectionPopup: add aria-labels to the copy, highlight, note, and delete
icon-only buttons so screen readers can identify them.
- usePdfHighlights: createFromSelection keeps only the pages that failed, so a
retry after a partial multi-page failure never duplicates already-saved pages.
- Test for the multi-page partial-failure retry path.
* fix(reader): harden PDF annotation store, validation, and create logging
- usePdfAnnotations: catch rejected api() calls (session expiry / network) so
load() sets loadError and mutations return null/false instead of rejecting.
- create-annotation DTO: require positive rect width/height so degenerate PDF
geometry is rejected; tests for zero/negative dimensions.
- annotation.service: add [annotation.create] start/end/fail lifecycle logs with
IDs, durationMs, and sanitized error for the multi-step create.
* test(reader): cover PDF annotations in the hub and add missing docstrings
Adds a real-DB e2e proving a PDF highlight persists as a pdf position and surfaces in the library-wide Annotations hub with the exact fields the page deep link needs (jumpFileFormat=pdf, cfi=null, pageno). Adds a hub-service unit test for the pdf row mapping. Documents the PDF render helpers, the annotation deep-link builder, and the createPdf repository method.
* fix(annotations): make PDF highlights reliable across reloads
Reconcile persisted highlights after EmbedPDF finishes loading its annotation state. Keep file-scoped pagination bounded and prevent PDF-only positions from starving device sync.
Ref #1195
* fix(annotations): keep pdf annotations stable during reload
Use authenticated native pagination fetches and discard responses that overlap successful mutations. Align shared dialog styling and annotation tests with project conventions.

Rebuilds the users roster, metadata field rules, file naming and metadata
score panels, and replaces the libraries list with an expandable ledger.
Libraries now batch their counts and last scan into one request instead of a
per-library fan-out, and surface scan history from scan_jobs on demand.
Field rules resolve each field from whichever provider ranks first for it, and nothing ever
compared candidates to one another. A provider that matched the wrong book still won every field
it led on, so a single record could carry a title from one book, a cover from a second and a
subtitle from a third. The stock defaults make that the ordinary case rather than an unlucky one,
since cover leads with Amazon while title and subtitle lead with Goodreads.
Relevance scoring is what let those wrong matches in. A candidate survived on any score above
zero, and token overlap counted stopwords, so "The Girl on the Train" scored against a query for
"The Hobbit" on the strength of a shared "the". Substring matching ignored word boundaries as
well, which is how "Ubik" matched "Rubik Cube Solutions". Drop stopwords from the query side,
require a majority of the words that remain, match whole words only, and give the surviving floor
a name.
Then hold every candidate to an anchor before field rules ever see it. The anchor is the edition
confirmed by the book's own ISBN when there is one, otherwise the candidate the query supports
most strongly, with the title rule breaking ties because that is where the reader declares which
provider decides identity. Agreement admits subtitle extensions, reordered words and translated
editions, and rejects on a contradicting author, which is the only signal that separates a book
from a companion volume that extends its title. Reject solely on positive evidence: a candidate
with no title, or with no author to compare against, keeps the benefit of the doubt, and a lone
provider is never second-guessed. Rejected candidates no longer contribute their provider ids
either, which would otherwise pin the wrong book for every later refresh.
Normalizing titles to [a-z0-9] emptied every title written in Japanese, Chinese, Russian or
Greek. That scored two providers reporting an identical title as a disagreement, which under the
new anchor would drop all but one of them in those libraries, and it had already denied the
relevance gate any way to score them at all. Decompose instead, strip nonspacing marks so Soseki
matches Sōseki, and keep letters of any script.
Two sets of fixtures described different books per provider while testing something else
entirely, field-rule precedence and metadata locking, and now describe one book so that they
still test what they were written for.
Closes#1023
Audnexus was the only author provider, and it returns just an ASIN, name,
description and image. Goodreads carries a far richer author record, so add it
as a second provider and let each field choose where it comes from.
The Goodreads API was retired in 2020, so the provider scrapes: a name resolves
to an author id through the WAF-free /book/auto_complete endpoint, falling back
to the author search page for names that only differ by a middle initial, and
the author page yields the biography, photo, birth and death dates, website,
genres and influences. Two rendering quirks are worth knowing about, since both
silently return the wrong value: free-text fields appear twice, truncated and
whole, so the parser takes whichever copy carries the most content; and the
birthplace sits in a bare text node while only the date is wrapped in a
dataItem, so authors with a place but no date correctly store nothing.
Preferences are now per field, mirroring the book-side FieldPreference model,
with an ordered provider list and a merge strategy each. They are global,
because an author row is shared across every library and cannot hold a
different biography per library. Providers declare which fields they can return
and both the resolver and the settings UI filter on that, so Audnexus can never
be assigned to a field it has no way to fill. The single global write mode is
migrated into each field's merge strategy on first read, keeping an existing
install's overwrite behaviour instead of silently adopting the default.
The executor now queries every listed provider and resolves each field
independently, first non-empty value winning, and records which provider
supplied the record so a re-run can pin the match instead of searching by name
again. overwriteIfProvided skips empty values, which is what lets a matched
author with an empty Audnexus biography fall through to Goodreads.
Extend the migration module beyond Booklore and Grimmory so an existing Audiobookshelf or
Calibre-Web Automated library can be moved into BookOrbit without rebuilding user state by
hand. Audiobookshelf supports both a live API connection and an offline backup file, while
Calibre-Web Automated reads a stopped snapshot of the app and metadata databases.
Match source books by ASIN in addition to ISBN, and batch the ISBN, ASIN, file hash, file
path, and title/author lookups so planning a large library issues a bounded number of
queries rather than one per book. Route the batched author comparison through the shared
accent-insensitive predicate, which now accepts a SQL fragment so a per-row pattern column
is matched the same way a bound literal is.
Extract the shared source connection form into MigrationSourceFields so the modal and the
settings page stay in sync as source types are added, and allow a mapping to skip a source
user instead of forcing every account to be imported.
Closes#986
Require manage_book_dock for the settings UI and the scoped API so regular Book Dock users cannot
view or modify administrative configuration.
Reject every Book Dock key on the generic PATCH /app-settings/:key route as well, including
book_dock_paused. That route accepted the same keys with any string value, so an operator with
manage_app_settings could store an out-of-range threshold or an unknown metadata mode and bypass
the validation the scoped endpoints apply.
Closes#1003
Book Dock was a single permission that the standard preset handed to every user, so an ordinary
account could pause processing, trigger a rescan, and finalize straight into the library. Keep
book_dock_access for personal upload and review, and move global control behind a new
manage_book_dock permission in the administration group.
Finalization now also requires library_upload, since it writes into a library. Per-file reads and
mutations are scoped to the uploader unless the caller can manage the dock, which closes the gap
that let any Book Dock user read, edit, or discard another user's entry by id. The summary
websocket now announces a change instead of broadcasting global counts, so each client refetches
its own scoped totals.
Closes#961
The lockout was checked before the password was verified, so a correct password on a locked
account returned the same generic invalid-credentials error as a wrong one. Users had no way to
tell the two apart, and the natural response was to keep retrying a password that was already
right.
Completing a password reset did not clear the lock either, so the one recovery path the UI
advertises appeared to fail for up to fifteen minutes after a successful reset.
Verify the password first and report the lockout, with the remaining wait, only when the supplied
password was correct. Someone guessing wrong passwords still gets the generic failure, so account
existence is not leaked. Clear the lock whenever a password is reset or changed, and give admins
an explicit unlock action for the case where waiting is not acceptable.
Add index on books table for random dashboard scroller queries, batch dashboard scroller requests, instrument pg pool logging, and cover dashboard scroller batching in e2e tests.
Replaces the implementation from #818 with a job-backed flow. Moves are
planned up front and surfaced as a preview the user confirms, then run
through a planner/executor split against a book_move_jobs table, so
progress is trackable and partial failures roll back.
The dialog-based flow from #818 is superseded: its module, service, and
repository are removed here in favour of the job-based equivalents. Its
e2e coverage is replaced by a book-move suite that exercises preview
classification, the collision policies, file relocation, preserved user
state, and the books-before-book_files update ordering that the
composite folder foreign key constrains.
Also adds dashboard shelf layout configuration.
